Why I started Buildana
I started Buildana because I'd watched too many people get burned by the way residential construction is usually sold. A cheap headline price, a thin contract, and then the real number turns up in variations once the client is too far in to walk away. That's not a business model I wanted to run. It's the one I built the company to be the opposite of.
The whole thing rests on one word: Amanah. It means a trust — something handed to you to protect. On a build it translates to a simple rule I don't break: the scope on contract day is the scope at handover. If I missed something in the quote, that's my problem to wear, not a variation I spring on you at lock-up. I'd rather lose a bit of margin than the client's trust, because the margin comes back on the next job and the trust doesn't.
I've honoured that when it hurt. On a Fairfield rebuild I under-read the rock on a sloping block and the excavation blew past my allowance by a five-figure sum. Under a standard contract that's a variation the owner pays. Under mine, it wasn't — I quoted the site, I got the site wrong, I wore it. The owner never knew until I told them afterwards. That's the difference between a fixed price and a fixed price with an asterisk.
Most of what I do is not glamorous, and I think that's the point. Before anyone talks kitchens I want the boring facts: the title, the zone, the fall of the block, the frontage, and the soil report. Get those right and the rest of the build is calm. Get them wrong — or skip them to win a quote — and you spend the next twelve months fighting the ground and the council. I'd rather have the hard conversation on day one than the expensive one at frame stage.
Buildana works across Western Sydney and beyond — Fairfield, Liverpool, Cumberland, Canterbury-Bankstown, Blacktown and out into the premium and outer LGAs where the sites get harder and the engineering matters more. Custom homes, knockdown rebuilds, duplexes, extensions, granny flats. Different projects, same discipline: a real number, a straight contract, and a build that's still sound long after the last invoice is paid. I hold NSW Builder Licence 487805C, and you can verify it yourself — I'd rather you checked than took my word for it.
